For the past 7 years she has provided practice leadership as the Chief Practitioner in Child Protection and Youth Justice Division of the Department of Human Services in Victoria, Australia, which has embraced many positive reforms. Her practice and research interest has been in the area of trauma and family work, and she has a particular expertise in with families where there has been sexual abuse and family violence.

As the association’s Chief Executive Officer, Susan brings a wealth of experience to Barrier Breakers.

Susan is passionate about all aspects of leadership development both personally and in the broader framework of the community. She is a Graduate of the Gippsland Community Leadership Program in 1998, initiated and managed the Gippsland Youth Leadership program from 1998 – 2003. Susan was a recipient of the Victorian Women’s Community Leadership bursary enabling her to travel to the UK and shadow 2004 European CEO of the Year, Sir David Henshaw, then CEO of Liverpool City Council (UK).

Susan was elected to a Victorian Local Council in November 2005 – 2008 and won the Municipal Association of Victoria International Fellowship to research Local Leadership in the UK and undertook this in June- July 2007. Susan attended the Commonwealth Local Government Forum in 2007 developing links with other countries also focusing on leadership. Her understanding of issues confronting our Commonwealth communities grew exponentially with conversations with world leaders particularly from Africa and other third world countries and annually visits Freetown, in Sierra Leone to set up a medical education training project since 2008.

From 2008 Susan was appointed as a Director onto a Regional Hospital Board by the Minister for Health, was Chair of the Human Research & Ethics Committee and is a member of the AICD regional committee. In the same year Susan was appointed as the CEO to getGP Ltd then Southern GP Training, a nationally acclaimed RTO for General Practice across Southern SE Australia.

In late 2010 Susan went into consultancy leading Lloyd Corporate Leadership Consultants where she had an integral leadership role in winding up and establishing new companies, supporting organisations to review their operations and strengthen network opportunities to improve skills in the Gippsland region.
